Modern Mountain Retreat
Canmore, Alberta.
Our client’s the Clarke’s were introduced to REBEL&CHIC through their contractor. The Clarke’s were downsizing, now empty nesters their goal of moving to Canmore, Alberta was fast approaching. The number one room on their redesign list was their den, as the Clarke’s love hosting gatherings, both formal and casual with friends and family they really wanted to focus on renovating this space before they moved into their new home.
The Clarke’s recognized that they wanted to work with an interior decorator that would collaborate with their contractor for the renovation. And most especially a decorating company that thought about sustainable, healthy and natural interiors with intentional design - to blend the picturesque view of the Canadian Rockies they would now have outside their den windows with a functional, modern minimalist design that held the aesthetics of mountain living. Enter REBEL&CHIC.
The Clarke’s were interested in two elements to be designed within their den:
-
Fireplace Wall – The west facing wall, which held a built-in gas fireplace situated in the centre of a bare wall.It was here that they wanted to incorporate a functional and aesthetically pleasing fireplace wall that could provide additional seating when required.
-
Wet Bar – The east wall, which held a wet bar, that was both dated in color and design. The Clarke’s wanted to use the existing structural bones of the current wet bar but modernize it.
The Design:
-
Paint– Paint colors were selected to reflect the gorgeous mountain view for the walls, casings and baseboards, and wet bar cabinets and doors using a certified low chemical emissions paint.
-
Wood– Solid maple was chosen for the wet bar countertop, hearth bench seat and flooring.
-
Stone – Natural stone with a hint of grey was selected for the floor to ceiling fireplace stone.
-
Hardware – Black wrought iron was upcycled for the cabinet hardware and door handles.
-
Décor – A small energy star Mini bar fridge was selected to insert and replace one of the floor to counter cabinet spaces, and two black wrought iron wall mounted wine/liquor racks combined with three maple floating wall shelves were selected for installation above the wet bar providing additional glass and barware space along with additional wine and liquor storage.
-
Wallcovering – Blue marble art wallpaper mural was selected to bring color and vibrant life to the wall above the wet bar.
The Final Result:
The design concept met the requirements of the Clarke’s by providing a design that was both modern with minimalism, includes textures and clean-cut lines – completing a design that complimented but did not compete with the beauty of the mountains found outside their dens windows.
Sustainability Impact included incorporating:
-
the Clarke’s existing furniture and décor elements for final decoration of the space.
-
Sustainable paint from certified brands.
-
